The Black Elected Officials of Summit County (BEOSC) have question Mayor Shammas Malik’s interpretation of a law regarding how the next Akron police chief can be hired. “The Mayor has full authority through the charter to hire/appoint the Police Chief. This is not a promotion,“the group wrote in an open letter to the Mayor.
